FLASHBACK: The day Bayo's brace sunk the Saddlers at the Bescot

The Cobblers travel to the Bescot Stadium to play Walsall on Saturday hoping to get back to winning ways.

Successive 1-0 home defeats at the hands of Port Vale and Swindon Town have left Keith Curle's men in need of three points as they look to maintain their promotion challenge in Sky Bet League Two.

But the Bescot has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for Town in recent years.

The Cobblers have been beaten on their past three visits, and haven't won at the venue since a league one triumph there in March, 2008.

That was a day when an Adebayo Akinfenwa double was enough to secure a 2-0 win for Stuart Gray's men.

The big front man (who wasn't anywhere near as big in those days!) netted in the eighth and 71st minutes to ensure Town travelled home with three points.

Akinfenwa's first goal was a clever lob past goalkeeper Clayton Ince, and he sealed the win when he converted Danny Jackman's cross - that was his sixth goal in six games following his January signing from Millwall.

He wouldn't score again though a 2-1 final day win over Tranmere Rovers, ending a run of eight games without a goal.

Walsall, who included a young Troy Deeney in their ranks, were left to rue a host missed chances, particularly skipper Tommy Mooney, who could have had a second-half hat-trick.

The Cobblers would go on to finish the campaign in ninth place, three places and 10 points outside the play-off places.

It was a season the title was won by a Swansea City side managed by current Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, with Colin Calderwood's Nottingham Forest the runners-up.

Doncaster Rovers won the play-offs, with Carlisle United, Leeds United and Southend United missing out, while Bournemouth finished rock bottom and were relegated to the fourth tier.

Cobblers team: Bunn, Holt, Crowe (Coke, 23m), Little, Gyepes, Hughes, Jackman, Gilligan, Burnell, Akinfenwa (Hubertz, 74m), Henderson (Larkin, 87m). Subs not used: Dunn, Jones
