‘Fantastic signing’: Brackley Town land former Ross County and West Brom wing-back

Brackley Town have confirmed left wing-back George Harmon as their seventh signing of the summer.

Harmon arrives following his departure from League Two side Cheltenham Town and he boasts vast experience at a high level.

Having spent three years with Ross County before he joined Cheltenham last summer, Harmon has over 100 Scottish Premiership appearances to his name.

A product of West Bromwich Albion’s academy, the 25-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough with National League South side Oxford City, where he scored six goals in 40 appearances throughout the 2021/22 season.

Brackley head coach Andy Whing often utilises attacking-minded full-backs and wing-backs to cause problems for opponents on the overlap, so Harmon should fit in very well indeed.

“George is a fantastic signing for us and we’re delighted that he’s chosen to be at the football club,” Whing told @BrackleyTownFC.

“Having played a lot of games in the Scottish Premiership and League Two, George has great experience and, still being only 25, has a lot to offer and improve.

“Again, his profile is exactly what we were looking for. He’s a left-back who’s aggressive and wants to get forward, which fits into what we want to do.”

Much like in the cases of Brackley’s six other signings so far this summer, Harmon was lured to St James Park by the renewed sense of belief and aspiration at the club.

“I’m looking forward to getting going this coming season and enjoying my football again,” Harmon said after putting pen to paper.

“Speaking to the gaffer and Joe (Taylor, head of recruitment), the belief and confidence they showed in me made me want to come here and repay that faith.

“The project they have got going on here really influenced me. I just want to kick on and do the best I can.”

Following Harmon’s arrival, Brackley now have nine first-team players ready to take pre-season head on, beginning on July 11 away at Ardley United.

Harmon joins retained players Kyle Morrison and Matt Lowe, as well as fellow new signings Charlie Cooper, Will Armitage, Tahvon Campbell, Ewan Williams, Kieran Coates and Josh Tomlinson.
