Former Cobblers goalkeeper David Cornell has joined fellow League One club Ipswich Town on a two-year deal, with a year extension on top.

The 29-year-old Welshman made 108 appearances across four seasons at the Cobblers, including 38 times in 2019/20.

But he was dropped by Keith Curle for the play-offs, with Steve Arnold preferred, and then left the club when his contract expired following the final against Exeter City.

The East Anglian Daily Times report that Cornell had already decided to leave Northampton prior to the play-off final. He was also the subject of interest from Derby, Blackburn, Swansea and Sunderland.

Cornell was unveiled by Ipswich alongside Oli Hawkins and Stephen Ward.
