Leeds United loanee Ryan Edmondson says it has been 'ace' fitting into his new surroundings after joining the Cobblers earlier in January.

The 19-year-old striker has started both games so far, playing almost the full 90 at Lincoln City last weekend and then lasting 73 minutes in Tuesday's goalless draw at Fleetwood Town.

"It’s been ace fitting into the squad," he said. "I feel like I’ve gelled with the lads really well and the last couple of performances have been good and it's been nice to play straightaway.

"I've always said game-time for a young striker is crucial. I want to play as many times as possible and get that experience. It's a high standard in League One this season and it's been great to start my first two games."

But Edmondson accepts he should already be off the mark for Town after going through on goal against Fleetwood. Slipped in by Sam Hoskins, the young striker tried to lift a finish over Alex Cairns but the goalkeeper stood up and made the save.

“The keeper’s had me off a bit there because I didn’t expect him to stay up that long,” Edmondson added. “I thought he would go to ground so that’s why I chose to lift it over him.

“I’ll look back at that one and look at how I can improve. I’m chasing my first goal for the club so it’s disappointing to see that chance slip but we move on and we keep our heads up.

“It’s always frustrating to miss a chance, especially for a striker, but you’ve got to put it behind you because if you let it play on your mind, it’ll affect you for the rest of the game.

“You’ve got to move on quickly and get it out of your head and hopefully improve on it and take the next one that comes along.”
