Cobblers boss Keith Curle was impressed by the way young Max Dyche handled himself after being 'thrown in at the deep end' with his first two appearances for the club last week.

The 17-year-old came on in the second-half at Crewe with 10-man Town under siege before he made his first senior start at Oxford United three days later.

Despite a forgettable night for the Cobblers, who were thrashed 4-0, Dyche did not look overawed by the occasion and provided a ray of sunshine for his manager.

"I had a chat with Max after the debrief from the Oxford game because it was important to get his emotions of how he felt the game went," said Curle.

"I spoke to Max and asked him about his experience and he said - with a little bit of industrial language! - that he loved every single second of being out on that pitch, apart from the result which is understandable.

"But that passion, that desire and that thirst to improve and to strive to be out on the pitch with the first-team is excellent and that's one of the positive things to come out out of Tuesday for myself.

"To see a young player thrown in at the deep end and not look out of place is very pleasing. That's a big plus that came out of Tuesday night because the lad handled himself very well and rose to the occasion and handled the occasion."
