Daventry Town boss Foster delighted with ‘fantastic’ Chesterfield FA Cup draw

Foster’s men, the lowest ranked side left in the famous competition, will travel to the Proact Stadium on the weekend of November 9.

It is reward for a superb 6-1 success at Hartley Wintney on Saturday, which was secured thanks to goals from Ryan Howell, Ashley Robinson, Liam Dolman, Tom Lorraine, Adam Confue and Neil King.

And Foster couldn’t be happier with who his history-makers will meet on FA Cup first round day.

“It’s fantastic,” said the boss, who was joined by a huge crowd at Daventry’s Communications Park ground for the draw. “You’ve got half a chance of drawing a league club and what an experience it will be for our lads.

“Miracles can happen and we’ll definitely go there and have a go.

“It’s a dream for us to be playing against Chesterfield at their ground and to be in the first round proper. We can relax a bit now.

“They usually get around 9,000 for home games and although we know crowds drop off a bit for cup games there will still be a lot of people there.

“It’s superb for us and I’d like to think we might even take a 1,000 there. It’s fantastic.”

And that was exactly how Foster described the win at Hartley Wintney on Saturday, as Town recovered from 1-0 down to seal a stunning success.

More than 300 people travelled to back the team and the manager was in high spirits as he recalled the events of a memorable weekend for his side.

“To go 1-0 down and come back how we did was something else,” he said. “We knew we had to switch on and we did.

“We scored three goals in the space of seven minutes and it was a great way to hit back. Ryan Howell’s goal was a peach.

“Once we got in front we showed what we could do.”
