Keith Curle has shown his strikers footage of Harry Kane in action for England in an attempt to encourage them to take more shots.

Although their numbers have improved in recent matches, the Cobblers continue to rank near the bottom of League One for shots taken and goals scored this season.

Curle believes his strikers need to be more buying a ticket more often if they want to win the raffle, and there are few better examples than Kane. The England and Tottenham striker has been in superb form this season, scoring seven goals and registering nine assists in leading Spurs to the top of the Premier League.

By contrast, Danny Rose has only scored once for the Cobblers since joining from Mansfield Town while Benny Ashley-Seal has yet to net in the league. Harry Smith has picked up after a slow start, scoring three in his last two games.

"All centre-forwards are the same, Danny Rose, Harry Smith, Benny Ashley-Seal - they all want to score goals," said Curle. "They've gone through a period of time where they haven't scored so it can create a negative mindset.

"But if you want to score, you need to shoot and that's one thing we haven't been doing enough. We haven't been taking those shots and taking the opportunities to get our shots on target.

"One of the things we have worked on is creating your own opportunities. We showed the players a video of Harry Kane when he played for England and you could tell, at every opportunity, he was desperate to score.

"Whenever he could, he tried to move the ball into a shooting position and you can see that intensity in his play. Sometimes he got a shot off but other times, when he wasn't able to, he found another pass.

"That's what we've said to our players because we feel, at the moment, we're not taking the chances to get a shot off and if you want to score, you need to shoot."
