Cobblers boss Keith Curle has been impressed by both the attitude and quality of young Callum Morton after the West Brom loanee's match-winning performance against Macclesfield Town at the weekend.

The 20-year-old capped his first Cobblers start with a maiden EFL goal when poking home from close-range an hour into Saturday's Sky Bet League Two encounter.

That proved the difference between the teams at Moss Rose as Town continued their unbeaten start to 2020 and jumped a place to fifth, moving to within just three points of second place.

Morton's endeavour and enthusiasm also impressed as he constantly nipped at defender's heels and almost got in on a couple of occasions.

"It was an excellent moment for the lad,' said Curle.

"We saw glimpses of his willingness in the first-half. He got caught offside a couple of times and that's probably something we will work on with him, about getting back in earlier and being ready to go again.

"He's playing against people now where he won't need that head start because he will catch people up, but his willingness to work is excellent and he's also a goal threat.

"He'll score different types of goal. He'll get goals where people are napping and sleeping and he'll nip in front of them, he'll also score goals from crosses and he's a brave lad so he'll go and get goals in and around the box.

"His attitude is excellent. He's very unassuming and a very affable young man but also confident.

"When he came in he introduced himself and made sure he learned all of the lads' names and mixed in very well, which is pleasing."
