Cobblers are 'getting closer' to announcing one or two new signings, according to manager Keith Curle.

Nine players have joined the club so far this summer but Curle still wants potentially another three additions, particularly with injuries taking their toll during the first few weeks of the season.

A striker is top of Curle's wishlist to complement Benny Ashley-Seal, Joe Nuttall and Harry Smith, but he's also after another midfielder and a centre-back.

"We're getting closer," said Curle on Tuesday afternoon. "There'll be a knock-on effect because we're making enquiries and we've made offers.

"Some of the players we're interested in have got other options and they need to make sure they're making the right decision for themselves.

"I've met with one player and I've arranged another meeting through an agent for another player and that's something I always do."

Although the October 5 deadline is fast approaching, Curle will bide his time to ensure he signs the right players.

"Even though we're getting towards the final stages of the window, I'm not going to change my policy because not only do I want to bring in the right ability, I also want to bring the right characters into the group," he added.

"The group at the minute is taking shape nicely and the team spirit, the togetherness and the collective vision we have in the changing room, I'm not going to bring in somebody that I don't think will fit into that."
