Boss Keith Curle believes Lloyd Jones will prove 'an excellent fit' for the Cobblers after the former Liverpool man joined on loan from Luton Town for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Kenilworth Road two years ago but has not been able to establish himself as a regular this season.

Jones, who was 15 when he signed for Liverpool from Plymouth for £150,000, has also played for Cheltenham, Accrington Stanley, Blackpool and Swindon.

He will spend the rest of the season at Northampton, much to Curle's delight.

"Lloyd is a good defender who we think is an excellent fit for us," he said.

"He is a dominant centre-back, he can play anywhere across the back three and he can handle the football too, being able to step out and join in with play.

"He is player who is a good size, he likes to defend and he has good technical ability.

"He is dominant in both boxes, he is a goal threat at attacking set plays and he has a decent amount of experience in both League 1 and League 2 so he can hit the ground running.

"Just as importantly, we think he will fit in well with the excellent dressing room environment we have at the club."

Jones follows Mark Marshall, Callum Morton and James Olayinka as Town's January signings.
