Cobblers will be 'ready' to make their move as and when players become available next month, according to manager Keith Curle.

The January transfer window opens on Saturday, January 2, and Town will be one of many clubs looking to boost their survival hopes by strengthening.

One player has already arrived this week with defender Lloyd Jones rejoining the club as a free agent, signing a contract until the end of the season.

"Our recruitment work is always ongoing," said Curle. "It's not that the transfer window opens and suddenly Simon Tracey, our head of recruitment, goes to work.

"We're looking all year round to develop and improve the squad that we've got. It's about the availability of players because you don't just go shopping in January, your work is done before that.

"It's a knock-on effect and we need to make sure we're ready to act. That's what we're trying to do now - if the right player becomes available, we need to be ready.

"That's not just financially but also numbers-wise within the squad. We're only allowed 22 registered players so we've got to make sure we have our numbers right."
