Curle angry at Cobblers' second-half collapse against Walsall

Cobblers boss Keith Curle was left 'angry' by his side's second-half performance at Walsall on Saturday, lamenting 'poor decisions' and a lack of 'hunger and desire' as they were dramatically beaten 3-2.

It was all going so well for Northampton before half-time with Callum Morton netting twice during a dominant first-half performance.

But the visitors collapsed after the break as Josh Gordon and Danny Guthrie hauled Walsall level before they then snatched a dramatic winner through Rory Holden's injury-time goal.

"There's a lot of emotions," said Curle, who took over an hour to appear for his post-match interview. "There's anger and frustration but also honesty.

"There's got to be a bit of honesty from me and in the second-half we made poor decisions and there wasn't enough desire or hunger to defend our penalty box.

"That's something we've been very good at and it has been part of our platform this season.

"We had some good passages of play in the first-half and we caused them problems and even in the second-half we created three good chances.

"Their goalkeeper made a great save and Callum had two great opportunities with the ball flashed across the box. If we take one of those it's a different story.

"But you also need to have that horrible side to your team and defend balls into your box properly."

Curle also refused to blame the wind-swept conditions, adding: "The wind was the same for both teams and it didn't have an impact on any of the goals."
