A crucial meeting between EFL clubs to rubber-stamp proposals on how to end a season early has been pushed back a day to Tuesday, June 9.

The meeting was due to take place on Monday but has been delayed by 24 hours because clubs were only given voting papers on Wednesday and five days are required before an EGM can take place.

EFL clubs will vote on a framework agreed by the EFL board, which includes keeping promotion, relegation and the play-offs. Once it is approved, League Two will then formally vote to end the regular season, with the final standings determined by points-per-game, meaning the Cobblers will finish inside the play-off positions.

Alternative ideas have also been submitted by some sides in League One. While the Championship is set to resume and League Two will curtail, the third tier remains split.

An EFL statement said: "The EFL Board met today and considered a number of proposals submitted by EFL clubs in respect of proposed amendments to EFL regulations in order to determine what will happen in the event the 2019-20 season is curtailed in any EFL division.

"This now brings an end to a comprehensive consultation phase and clubs have today received formal notice of the meeting which will now take place on Tuesday, 9 June.

"At that meeting clubs will consider a number of different proposals from both clubs and the board of the EFL."

Speaking about next week's meeting, Cobblers chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "With how the vote is structured, I believe the framework will be agreed anyway and then League Two will have their own vote.

"If League One want to continue having discussions, they can. But my understanding is that once the framework has been agreed, League Two will vote and based on the indicative vote we had previously and all the conversations I've had since, that's how it will go."
