The former Southampton and Yeovil man signed on at Sixfields in the summer after impressing on trial in pre-season.

The 23-year-old has been a key member of the Cobblers team that has stormed 12 points clear at the top of Sky Bet League Two, netting seven goals in 16 starts and 15 substitute appearances.

The pacy and hard-working forward joins midfielder Lawson D’Ath and defender Rod McDonald in signing new Town contracts in recent weeks, with all three now tied down until the summer of 2018.

“Like Lawson and Rod, Sam is a young player who has played a big part this season,” said Cobblers boss Chris Wilder.

“He has a lot of potential and we are delighted he has committed to the club for the next two and a half years.

“Through his performances, his work-rate and his desire to succeed are clear to see and he is another player with a superb attitude, and that is important.

“In any squad you need a balance and we have an exciting group of young players who have the potential to develop and grow further with us.

“We are also pleased to get a number of out of contract players tied up early, it is a show of commitment and faith both ways from the club to the player and vice versa and this is more good news for the club.”

Hoskins signed the deal before getting on the team bus to Hartlepool on Friday morning, and said: “I am delighted to get it signed, the club is on the up and it is a good place to be at the moment.

“I knew when I signed the club was on the up, but I didn’t anticipate getting this far into the season and getting another deal.

“It has been a really good season, and hopefully we can carry it on.

“You need to keep the same squad as much as you can, and you can see how strong the squad is from our performances this season.

“Even when the squad is rortated, everybody performs well, and that is why we have had success this season.”

Hoskins is likely to start on the bench at the Victoria Ground, but he will be ready to play his part if required, and is confident the Cobblers can win their 11th league game on the spin.

“We have managed 10 wins in a row now, hopefully we can carry that on and we are confident we can,” said Hoskins.

“There are plenty of points available still, plenty of games to play, but we are confident every game we go into that we can get the three points.”
