The fixture between the near neighbours has been chosen for live coverage on the first international weekend of the season.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 3, the match will now take place on Sunday, September 4, with a midday kick-off.

There are no Premier League or Sky Bet Championship fixtures on that weekend due to World Cup qualifiers, with England opening their campaign on September 4 in Slovakia (ko 5pm).

The Cobblers ran away with the league two title last season, but weren’t chosen for live television coverage, but they will play in front of the nation in what will be their sixth league match of the new campaign.

The clash against MK will only be the third league meeting between the clubs, with the other two coming in the 2008/2009 season, which ended in the Cobblers being relegated from league one.

MK won both of those encounters that season 1-0, with Aaron Wilbraham the match-winner in both fixtures.

Cobblers and MK have met more recently in various cup competitions, and they played each other twice earlier this year in the FA Cup third round.

The original tie at Sixfields ended in a 2-2 draw, before Karl Robinson’s men won the replay 3-0 at stadiummk, despite the visitors being cheered on by more than 7,000 supporters.
