Cobblers sign new goalkeeper after Burge's departure

Cobblers have signed goalkeeper Zach Jeacock on loan for the 2026/27 campaign.

The 25-year-old, who represented England at Under-19 level and becomes Northampton’s second summer signing after Harvey Saunders, has joined from Championship side Lincoln City. The club have been in the market for a new goalkeeper to compete with Ross Fitzsimons after manager Chris Hogg decided against keeping Lee Burge.

Having joined Birmingham City as an eight-year-old, Jeacock spent more than a decade in the club’s academy before signing professional terms and earning recognition at England Under-19 level.

He made four senior appearances for the Blues and also spent time on loan at Salford and Gloucester before heading to Lincoln City in the summer of 2024. In addition to a loan spell at Southend United, Jeacock has played 22 times for the Imps, including seven cup appearances last season as City enjoyed a superb season that culminated in them winning the Sky Bet League One title, with Jeacock signing a new three year contract with Lincoln in November 2025.

The goalkeeper, who kept a clean sheet at Sixfields when Lincoln beat Cobblers 1-0 in January 2025, is under contract with the Imps until 2029 after penning a new long-term deal at the club last summer. "In the short-term, Zach will continue to challenge George (Wickens) for the number one jersey, but this contract is also about planning and future proofing this position," Lincoln's director of football Jez George said at the time.
