Their performances for Northampton have, naturally, spiked the interest of others, however Keith Curle remains hopeful of having them both available when his side start their 2020/21 League One campaign.

"We've had conversations with the clubs and we've had conversations with the players and ultimately what we try and do is get players who we think are on a journey to the Championship or the Premier League with their potential," said the Town chief.

"Our job, and the job of the recruitment department, is to get those players early on their journey so we can play a part in it and I think we've done that with all of the players which we took on loan.

"I think we improved them and we gave them a platform to play and they've repaid us through their performances."

In the end, the decision will rest with their parent clubs.

Curle added: "With Scotty Wharton and certainly Callum Morton, you'd say the next stage of their progression is definitely League One and because of their performances for us, they will have other options from within League One.

"Ultimately, it's down to their parent clubs and whether or not they see their progression continuing with us and also whether or not the players see their progression with us.

"That's an ongoing conversation with those clubs and ultimately those clubs have a duty to put their players in the best environment and at the best football club that will aid their development."
