Cobblers reject fourth bid for Goode as Curle insists clubs must meet his asking price

Cobblers have turned down four bids from two Championship clubs for defender and captain Charlie Goode.

It is understood the bids were made by Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough and all four fell short of Town's seven-figure valuation for the defender.

"We don't need to sell Charlie," insisted chairman Kelvin Thomas when speaking to TalkSPORT's Ian Abrahams. "We've now turned down four offers for him from two Championship clubs so we're in a decent place.

"If those clubs are serious about it, they'll pay what we think he's worth. If they don't, Charlie looks as fit as anything and he's ready to play for us this season."

Manager Keith Curle echoed those sentiments, adding: "Right from the offset, we've never shied away from the fact that there would be interest because he's a very good player and that's why we brought him to the club.

"Charlie has grown in stature and confidence over a short period of time and we feel he's maximising his development with us and at the same rate as us.

"The biggest problem would have been had we not got promoted last season because he wants to further his career and play at a higher level but that ambition hasn't changed.

"Every player's got a value and Charlie is aware of his value that we put on him and we've been very transparent with his agent - if someone pays that valuation, Charlie will continue his career with them.

"If not, he will stay here and he will develop with us and improve us."
