Cobblers have already received 'a lot of applications' for the manager's job but chairman Kelvin Thomas says he is in no hurry to make an appointment.

Keith Curle parted company with the club on Wednesday afternoon following one win in 10, a run which left Town 23rd in Sky Bet League One.

Jon Brady, supported by Ian Sampson and Marc Richards, has stepped in as caretaker boss and will oversee Saturday's game against Burton Albion.

Thomas had not yet held talks with any candidates for the full-time role although he did confirm Brady could be considered, providing he wants the job.

"I haven't spoken to anyone at this point," said Thomas. "Jon is definitely a candidate but whether he wants to take it would be a conversation.

"He's been around the club a long time so he was happy to step and help us, as were Sammo and Marc, but we haven't spoken about the long-term at the moment.

"I'm very comfortable in the short-term with three taking it on and hopefully making some changes and getting some results, but we'll take a look.

"We've already had a lot of applications for the job and myself and James (Whiting) will sit down next week and discuss that a little bit more."

Curle was appointed within 24 hours of Dean Austin's departure back in October 2018 but Thomas says the club are in no hurry to bring in a new man this time around.

"The difference this year is that we have COVID and a busy fixture list," he added. "The games are coming thick and fast and we're playing on Saturdays and Tuesdays for a long period of time.

"Hopefully we can get a couple of results and that might give us a bit more time to consider things, but it's important to look at the short, medium and long term with this decision and those are the discussions we will have.

"I think we're in a good place in the moment with Jon, Marc and Ian. That fits for us right now and we'll see what happens further down the line because it gives us a bit more time to make those decisions.

"We're not in so much of a rush but in the meantime hopefully we pick up some results, starting on Saturday."
