Cobblers players told they can leave club this summer - if the right offer comes in

Chris Hogg has confirmed that ‘one or two’ Cobblers players have been told they can leave the club this summer.

Town finished last season with 13 players under contract and that number has since risen to 19 following five new signings, in addition to Sam Hoskins’ decision to sign a new deal. However, given the disastrous way things unravelled last season, it would be no surprise if Hogg wants more of a significant overhaul this summer.

“Naturally there will be one or two but those conversations will stay in-house,” said the Northampton manager. “There are always difficult conversations and honest conversations at football clubs because you’re having to pick teams and make decisions on players.

“No doubt there will be loads more of those conversations as we face different scenarios over the season but that’s part of my job and it’s something I’m really comfortable with. The way we work as staff, that honesty and transparency is really important.”

Having now had an opportunity to work with his squad on the training pitch, Hogg added: “We’ve been back for a couple of weeks and everyone has been really good. We tested them at the university and they’ve all come back physically strong. We’ve worked hard on the grass and it’s nice to have been able to get a bit of a feel for them.”
