Cobblers will hold fire before putting next year's season tickets on sale but chairman Kelvin Thomas says he has been 'utterly overwhelmed' by the number of fans wanting to purchase tickets and offer financial support to the club during these uncertain times.

Season tickets would usually be on sale by now but the club have had to hold back given it is not certain that supporters will be able to attend matches at the start of next season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, that hasn't stopped a huge number of fans from getting in touch and offering to buy tickets, while many have also made it clear they would not ask for a refund if the remainder of this season - nine games in total - was cancelled.

"We've been overwhelmed by the level of support we've received from fans in terms of ticket sales and it's not just about next year's season tickets but also about this year's season tickets," said Thomas.

"If we don't finish all the games this season, the vast majority have said they wouldn't be looking for a refund and not many have said they will and that's very much appreciated at a time where we're already losing income.

"You don't want to necessarily lose even more income by giving out refunds of season tickets but we're still budgeting around what we hope to happen and we've also built budgets over what could happen in the worst-case scenario.

"We're prepared for both but the response from fans has been utterly overwhelming. Just today (Tuesday), I received an email enquiring about when season tickets would go on sale because they want to buy one to support the club - and that's on top of a bunch of other emails.

"Our view right now is that we still need to be patient and we can't rush into anything in terms of putting season tickets on sale. Of course it's a big cash flow hole but myself, David (Bower) and the board will cover it and we have no issue with that and alongside the government support, that's definitely helped us.

"But it will have a financial impact and we won't rush into anything because we've got to wait until we know what's happening to this season and also we need to have a better understanding for next season.

"But we absolutely appreciate all the support fans have shown for the club and we'll be working through the models as we go through the next week or so and more information comes to light."
