Cobblers on the road again... fans' away day guide as Town head to Blundell Park to take on Grimsby Town

The Cobblers are back on the road on Saturday as they head to the north Lincolnshire seaside town of Cleethorpes to take on Grimsby Town in a crucial Sky Bet League Two game (ko 3pm).

A loyal following of Town fans will make the trip to Blundell Park, with Keith Curle's men hoping to bounce back from Tuesday night's frustrating 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town.

So here is a quick guide to getting to Cleethorpes, and what all of those travelling can expect to find once they get there.

Club formed: 1878 (as Grismby Pelham, renamed Grimsby Town in 1879)

League club since: 2016 - Grimsby were promoted from the National League in May, 2016, a division which they were relegated to in 2010. Prior to that relegation, the Mariners had been a League club between the years 1892 and 1910, and then again from 1911-2010.

Stadium: Blundell Park. Blundell Park has been home to Grimsby Town since it was built in 1899. The club previously played at Clee Park, Lovett Street and Abbey Park. The towering floodlights at the stadium were bought from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1958. Blundell Park is the lowest football stadium in the United Kingdom, at a height of only two feet above sea-level. The club has been trying to move to a new stadium since the early 1990s.

Cobblers' overall record at Blundell Park: P 20 W 8 D 4 L 8 - The Cobblers have a decent record at Blundell Park. Aside from a 2-0 FA Cup defeat on the north east coast in December, 2013, Town haven't lost at the home of the Mariners since October, 1997, when Ian Atkins' side were edged out 1-0. The two sides would go on to meet at Wembley later that season, with Grimsby again winning 1-0 in the play-off final. In their past five league visits to Blundell, the Cobblers have won on three occasions, and drawn the other two.

Directions to ground (details from footballgroundguide.com): First thing to remember is that the ground is not actually in Grimsby, but the neighbouring town of Cleethorpes. The ground is on the A180 which runs between Grimsby & Cleethorpes. Cleethorpes is well signposted from Grimsby town centre. At the end of the M180 continue along the A180 towards Grimsby. After around 14 miles you will near Grimsby town centre. Continue along the A180 following signs for Cleethorpes. On reaching a McDonalds sign on your left and the Blundell Park Hotel on your right, turn left into Imperial Avenue for the club entrance

Parking: There is no car park at the ground, therefore only street parking

Nearest train station: The nearest railway station to Blundell Park is New Clee which is located just under a mile from Blundell Park, while Cleethorpes Railway Station is just over a mile from the ground and is around 15-20 minute walk

Nearest pub for away fans (details from footballgroundguide.com): Inside Blundell Park, away fans have their own bar called Scotties. This is run by the Mariners Trust, a supporters organisation with has the aim of raising money for the club. Scotties Bar can only be accessed from inside the ground, once you have entered through the away turnstiles. Nearby, tucked behind the main Cleethorpe Road is the Rutland Arms, but it is around a 15 minute walk away from the ground. There are a number of pubs along Cleethorpes seafront but this is around a 25-30 minute walk away.
