Cobblers on the road again (as it stands)... fans' away day guide as Town head to New Lawn to take on Forest Green Rovers

Coronavirus outbreak permitting, the Cobblers are back on their travels on Saturday afternoon when they head to Nailsworth in Gloucestershire to take on Forest Green Rovers in a Sky Bet League Two fixture.

If the the game goes ahead, Town are hoping to claim three points to maintain their challenge for the Sky Bet League Two promotion play-off places.

League club since: 2017 - Forest Green were promoted to the EFL for the first time via a Wembley play-off final in 2017, beating Tranmere Rovers 3-1. Forest Green had been a National League club since 1998, but only started challenging at the top end of the table following investment from Dale Vince from 2010 onwards. Vince remains the club chairman and major shareholder.

Manager: Mark Cooper - Cooper has plenty of Northants connections, having played for both Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town, as well as spending two spells with the Poppies as manager. As a player, Cooper enjoyed a 22-year career in the Football League and non-League, taking in a host of clubs and making close to 600 senior appearances. He has enjoyed a mixed career as a manager after starting out at Tamworth in 2004, and has been in charge of Forest Green since 2016, guiding them to promotion from the National League in May, 2017.

Stadium: The New Lawn. The New Lawn has been Forest Green's home since 2006, with the club moving there from their previous home, The Lawn Ground, which was only as few hundred yards down the road.

Cobblers' overall record at New Lawn: P 2 W 1 D 0 L 1 - Saturday is only the Cobblers' third trip to the New Lawn, and only their second in the league, following on from last season's last-minute 2-1 defeat there on New Year's Day. Town's only other run-out at the Gloucestershire venue was in the FA Cup first round in November, 2010. Ian Sampson's men were comfortable 3-0 winners against the non-Leaguers thanks to goals from John Johnson, Steve Guinan and Michael Jacobs.

Is away stand all seating?: No. It is mainly a terrace, with a small number of around 100 seats

Refreshments: The New Lawn is a vegan stadium... so if you are looking for a meat pie, beef burger or hot dog inside the ground, then you will be disappointed. The club say 'the vegan menu changes each matchday weekend – but you can expect to see anything from our Q-Pie with Quorn to vegan pizzas, fajitas, salads and sweet potato fries'. There is no dairy milk in your tea or coffee either.

Directions by road (from footballgroundguide.com): Don’t try and find Forest Green on your map, look up Nailsworth whic is south of Stroud in Gloucestershire.The best way to approach is from the M5 and exit at junction 13 and head for Stroud on the A419. At Stroud turn onto the A46 towards Nailsworth. This will bring you into the centre of the town when you reach the Information Centre take the first right at the mini roundabout into Spring Hill, which goes up a steep hill sign posted Forest Green. The New Lawn is at the top of this hill.

Parking: There is no parking available in the club car park for visiting fans. A short distance away along Nympsfield Road is Nailsworth Primary School which offers parking at £5 per car. Otherwise, there is plenty of on-street parking in the area. The club also runs a park and ride service from local engineering company Renishaw, on Stroud Road, GL5 5HA. There are more than 200 parking spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis, costing £3 per car. The service starts at 12.30pm, with regular busses heading up to the ground. The last coach back after the game leaves The New Lawn at 5.45pm.

Nearest train station: There is no train station in Nailsworth, the nearest is five miles away in Stroud

Nearest pub for away fans (details from footballgroundguide.com): The George is on New Market Road around a 15 minute walk from the ground. To find the pub from the ground, walk back down the main road towards the town centre. Half way down look out for Burma Road on the right and follow it along into Seven Acres Road. Carry on till you see a footpath on your left heading sharply down the hill. It is a shortcut that leads to the back of The George which is in Newmarket Road. There are other pubs at the bottom of the hill in Nailsworth, which is about a 15 minute walk, such as the Britannia on New Market Road. Alternatively, a five minute drive (or two and a half miles) away from the ground in Nympsfield Village is the Rose Crown, and if you have a bit of time on your hands then there is the Village Inn on the A46 on the north side of the town.
