Cobblers have bolstered their defensive ranks by making a deadline day move for Luton Town defender Lloyd Jones, who's joined on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old defender, who stands at 6ft 3in, becomes Northampton's fourth signing of the month and will add cover and competition in defence with Scott Wharton still suspended and Jordan Turnbull currently injured.

Jones has struggled for minutes in the Championship this term, making eight appearances in all competitions for Luton.

Hatters boss Graeme Jones said earlier in the week: "I've got a lot of time for Lloyd, and if we had been in League One this season and Lloyd had played 46 games, then I think you’ll have a player on your hands, I'm quite happy to state that.

“It's been difficult to give him minutes in the Championship. We'll see what happens."

Jones started his career at Plymouth Argyle before joining Liverpool for £150,000 in 2011.

During his time at Anfield, when he captained the reserve team, he enjoyed loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Accrington Stanley, Blackpool and Swindon Town, making well over 50 appearances, mostly in League One.

In January 2018, Jones joined Luton for an undisclosed fee, and spent time on loan at Plymouth Argyle last season. He's often been in Luton Town's 18 man matchday squad in the Championship this season, albeit without forcing his way into the team on a regular basis.
