Cobblers lose appeal against Jack Perkins' red card in derby defeat to Peterborough
Jack Perkins will miss most of the Christmas period after Cobblers lost their appeal against his red card.
The 22-year-old was dismissed 10 minutes into Saturday’s Nene Derby when his high challenge on Peter Kioso was deemed dangerous by the match officials, a decision labelled ‘ridiculous’ by Kevin Nolan in his post-match interview.

The Cobblers boss suggested at the time that the club would launch an appeal, and so they did on Tuesday afternoon, however an FA panel have upheld the initial decision, meaning Perkins will now be banned for three games – Friday’s visit of Wimbledon, plus the trips to Burton and Huddersfield after Christmas.
The club submitted video evidence of similar challenges from Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze and Brighton’s Diego Gómez in the Premier League over the weekend, neither of which were deemed worth of a red card despite the assistance of video technology (VAR).
A club statement confirmed: "Northampton Town's appeal against the red card shown to Jack Perkins at Peterborough United on Saturday has been rejected. The club argued that the punishment was inconsistent, excessive and disproportionate and that excessive force was not used.
“The club submitted video evidence and cited two Premier League incidents from last weekend where, with the benefit of VAR and having been reviewed by various match officials, the incidents resulted in a yellow card on one occasion and no action being taken in another.
“However, the panel have rejected the club's appeal, with the FA informing the club the threshold for overturning a decision was not met, and Jack Perkins must now serve a three-match ban.”
