Cobblers hoping to offload players before the end of the window
Chris Hogg has confirmed Cobblers are looking to offload players before the end of the transfer window.
A number of senior players were released at the end of last season, including Tom Eaves, Lee Burge and Michael Jacobs, before Cameron McGeehan and Nesta Guinness-Walker decided not to sign new deals.
However, with seven players coming in so far this summer and more expected, Chris Hogg will need to offload players to avoid a bloated squad. He currently has 21 players either under contract or on loan for the 2026/27 season.
Under EFL rules, League One and League Two clubs can register a maximum squad of 22 players - but that does not include under-21 players or goalkeepers. That means Cobblers still have five spaces available.
"Yes, most definitely,” confirmed Hogg when asked if players could leave Sixfields before the end of the window. “The players obviously need interest and they need things to fall in line and it also needs to suit us as well as them in terms of what can happen. There's still lots going on behind the scenes with that and it will be interesting to see how that transpires over the next few weeks.”
Cobblers continue pre-season by heading to Cambridge United on Tuesday evening (7.30pm kick-off).
"It'll be a similar approach and it's about us and trying to build an identity as a team and a club and building on things we've done in pre-season so far,” Hogg added.
"Saturday was another good physical test for us and that's what pre-season is all about. We need to create a robustness, both physically and mentally, and we need to be able to push ourselves and challenge our mindsets.
"Everyone seemed to have come through Saturday fine which is a big positive and now we move onto Tuesday. There'll be some more tweaks and changes and we'll have a look at a few things. It's a good game to look forward to. “
