Cobblers have 'spoken' to transfer targets as Nolan sets out timeline for January business
Kevin Nolan says Cobblers have ‘spoken’ to a couple of their transfer targets in the last few days – but he does not expect any business to be done imminently.
Town brought in four players last January, all of whom improved the squad, and Nolan is hoping for a similarly successful month this time around after the window opened on New Year's Day. "We’re going to be active and we have spoken to a couple of players who we feel would come in and improve us,” said Nolan. “I don’t want just a number, I want someone who will come in and make us better.

"Hopefully that’s for the next year, two years, not just six months because we want to put people in places and get a squad together and have a core group that will take us to where we want to be.
"We’re having conversations and we’re always talking with Colin (Calderwood) and Alex (Latimer). We’re not close to anything at the moment but we’re always in touch with people.”
With seven players currently unavailable, Nolan has limited options for Sunday’s trip to Bolton Wanderers (12pm kick-off).
"This is the time of the season when your squad gets stretched and we are obviously missing a few but it’s up to others to come in and take their chance,” Nolan added. “If we can get out of Sunday unscathed hopefully I will be able to give the players a few days off so they spend time with their families.
"It’s the hardest time for footballers because there are temptations wherever you go and everyone’s having fun around you but you have to stay professional and stay healthy. I have flu at the moment and that’s what happens at this time of year but, touch wood, we have got through the worst of it and Sunday’s the final hurdle.
“It’s going to be a really tough one at Bolton, a club I know well, and hopefully we play as well as we did against Stockport. If we do, we’ll give ourselves a chance of coming away with a result.”
