Cobblers goalkeeper signs new contract

Cobblers goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons has signed a new contract that will keep him at Sixfields until the summer of 2027, with an option for an extra year.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper, who initially only signed a one-year deal, started the season as Kevin Nolan’s number two after joining the club last summer but an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Lee Burge opened the door and he hasn’t looked back since, starting each of Town’s last 17 league games, keeping six clean sheets. He’s made 20 appearances in all competitions.

"We're delighted," said Nolan. "The quality of Ross's performances speak for themselves and he has made a big impression here, both on and off the field.

"We were keen to extend his time with us, and to secure his services for next season as part of our forward planning and we are pleased that has now been done. The supporters have taken to Ross, as we knew they would, and this is good news for us."
