Keith Curle says there's likely to be more transfer activity at the Cobblers before next Friday's deadline following the departure of Matty Warburton on loan to Yeovil Town earlier today (Thursday).

Cobblers have signed 11 players this summer but still have another week to add to their squad and Curle remains on the lookout for new additions, with a centre-back thought to be top of his wishlist.

"It's a mechanism that doesn't stop," said Curle. "Whether the window is open or closed, we're always looking to improve the squad and bring in players that can add to us.

"We're trying to bring in the right players at the right time so we're still working behind the scenes and if things fall in the right direction, we're ready to act and that's vitally important.

"You need to have money available at the right time, it's not always about how much you spend. You want to be able to operate as and when you need to.

"When you see the opportunity to improve, you're in the market place. That's vitally important to ourselves."

Warburton might not be the last player to leave on loan. Curle's squad looks a little bloated in one or two areas and should there be more additions, players will see their game-time limited.

"Matty realised that he needs to be playing games and credit to him, he wants to play games," added Curle. "We do have a situation where there are a few players in our squad that might not get the game-time.

"Every professional player wants to play 90 minutes every Saturday and every Tuesday but some players will not get that on a regular basis and then it'll be down to them and where they see their career going.

"If they see an opportunity to stay and fight for their place here, excellent. Stay and fight and put in performances in training and in games to give them an opportunity to be selected.

"Other players might not see many opportunities here and they might see a chance elsewhere or somebody else might see them figuring in another team where they play more games. Ultimately, all professionals are paid to play football and they want to play football."
