Cobblers boss Page rubbishes talk of Manchester United being in 'a little crisis'

The Old Trafford club have suffered a run of three defeats in eight days, the latest of which came on Sunday at Watford where the Red Devils were beaten 3-1.

That followed on from another Premier League reverse at home to bitter rivals Manchester City, and a 1-0 Europa League surrender against Feyenoord in Rotterdam.

Midfielder Marouane Fellaini branded his team's slump in form as 'a little crisis', and there has been plenty of criticism flying in from all angles for manager Jose Mourinho and some of the club's star players this week, with Wayne Rooney in particular taking plenty of hits.

Page was at Vicarage Road to see his former club Watford beat United on Sunday, and says he saw enough in their performance to know things 'can turn for them' quickly.

"They have had a difficult week in football terms, and with the expectation levels of a club like Manchester United," said Page.

"They will be disappointed in the week they have had, but in any minute it can turn for them.

"I went to Watford game on Sunday, and in my opinion Watford deserved the victory, but at any time United could have taken control.

"Both teams created chances and we were just waiting for one of them to grab hold of the game, and it was Watford who did that.

"It is going to be about us focusing on what we can do, not underestimating them and going out knowing whatever team he puts out will be capable of hurting us.

"Irrespective of what 11 Jose Moutinho puts out, we are up against quality players, and we have to respect that.

"I don't care if they have lost three on the bounce or if they had won their last three.

"There is talk of confidence being an issue with them at the minute, but there is enough quality in their changing room to hurt any team."

The Cobblers are themselves going into the game on the back of a 3-1 defeat, with the loss at Chesterfield the first the club have suffered in the league since December, 2015.

It was a disappointing way for the record-breaking unbeaten run to come to an end, but Page says there is no cloud hanging over the club's Moulton College training base as the players gear up for one of the biggest nights of their careers.

"Training was very lively on Monday," admitted Page. "The weekend is out of the way and the players are fully focused on the Manchester United game now.

"Even the lads that have not been involved in the team were putting their shout out there to get a place in the team.

"We are looking forward to this fixture now we have the weekend game out of the way.

"I had banned the players from talking about last week because we had to focus on the Chesterfield game.

"That was a disappointing result for us, so we are looking to put things right from the weekend."
