Chris Hogg 'super proud' of Cobblers and hails 'special' support from fans

Chris Hogg said he was ‘super proud’ of his players for the way they pushed Leicester City all the way in Saturday’s Carabao Cup first round tie.

Town started fast at the King Power and should have led inside a minute through a big chance for Harvey Saunders, before Caleb Okoli profited from some sloppy defending to nudge Leicester ahead on 16 minutes.

Other than that though, there was very little in the game in terms of chances. While the Foxes dominated the ball, they only managed eight shots in total, generating less than 0.5xG, and Cobblers nearly forced penalties with some late pressure.

“I hate losing and that’ll churn for a little bit but I’m super proud of the boys in terms of how they went about it and what they tried to do,” said Hogg.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game coming here. Leicester have a top manager in my opinion and the style of play is one that makes it very difficult for you to gain control in the game with how well they keep the ball.

“I’m really pleased with lots of it. We suffered at times without the ball but I also thought we had some really good moments and the boys showed good discipline. If I was going to lose a game, I want to lose it like how we finished - by having a right good go.

“I saw more progress from pre-season and what was pretty special today was seeing the travelling support. It’s always different when the fans come in their numbers and support the boys all the way through like they did. I thought they were terrific.”
