Hogg wants to add 'athleticism and goals' in the final weeks of the window

Chris Hogg wants to add goals and athleticism to his squad in the final three weeks of the transfer window.

The summer window closes on Tuesday, September 1st, at 11pm and Hogg, speaking on BBC Radio Northampton (listen to the full episode here), says there are ‘two or three positions’ that are his focus.

“I love working with the group and I’m delighted with the personalities and the qualities of the people we’ve brought in,” said Hogg. “But we’ve still got a bit to do and there’s an awareness of that inside the club.

“We are working really hard behind the scenes to manipulate the squad so we’re going into the season in a really strong position and with the right numbers in the right positions.

“We’ve seen progress with the goals we’ve scored in pre-season but goals win games and we need to look at that, and we also need to have a real athletic team that can do various things.

“There’s two or three positions that we’re hoping to strengthen in the coming weeks. Who knows how the window will go but there’s some really positive signs behind the scenes in terms of the conversations we have with Doigy and the recruitment team. We’re doing everything we can to help what we’ve already got.”

The situation is somewhat complicated by the ongoing takeover saga. The club’s budget is expected to be bolstered once the investment goes through but that’s likely to be late in the window.

Hogg added: “What you learn with transfer windows, and it’s been the same for me over the last seven years, is that everything goes in waves. You can have a busy week, get a couple in, and then two weeks go by and you hit a brick wall. Every coach and manager will say the same thing.

“We are trying to move forward with our targets and we’re trying to get things done and for a variety of reasons we are where we are. We’re in a good spot and we’re keen to add.

“We’re working where we’re at now. I can’t focus on anything else in terms of what might come. I’m really happy with how it’s going with Kelvin (Thomas), Colin (Calderwood) and James (Whiting) in terms of what might come, and things on that front are still progressing.”
