Chambers 'turned down clubs from higher level' to sign for Cobblers
Chris Hogg has revealed that deadline day recruit Sam Chambers ‘turned down opportunities from a higher level’ to sign for Northampton.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder became the club’s second deadline day arrival - and 12th of the summer - when signing on a season-long loan from Leeds United.

"He can create and score goals from midfield,” said Hogg. “He has already played in the first team at Leeds and what has really impressed me about Sam was his commitment to come here.
“We first spoke a couple of months ago and he has turned down some opportunities from a higher level to come here and to be a part of what we are trying to do and that's really encouraging.
"He is highly rated at Leeds, he is a player with a high ceiling and he is someone we are really excited to bring to the club."
After Chambers made his full Leeds debut against Millwall in 2025, manager Daniel Farke said: "He has good dynamic and intensity with his runs. We like him a lot, it was not a gift that he was in the starting line-up."
“A player has to adapt to the physicality of a Championship side. I liked a lot in training and he brings himself into interesting positions, some channel runs to have good chances and he usually scores 10 times out of 10. He has this quality. It was a big day for him and a solid performance. We have a promising young man and he showed some glimpses of what we can expect in the future."
Confirming his loan move to Sixfields, the club released the following statement: “Leeds United can confirm academy midfielder Sam Chambers will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Northampton Town.
“The highly rated 19-year-old heads to Sixfields Stadium in search of regular game time to gain valuable experience in senior football.
“The versatile youngster, who can play anywhere in midfield and across the attacking line, made his debut for the Whites in a 2024 Sky Bet Championship victory over Plymouth Argyle and followed that up with a first start at Elland Road in an Emirates FA Cup tie shortly afterwards.
“So far this campaign, Chambers has impressed for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s side, scoring against National League opposition Boreham Wood and grabbing two assists in the Premier League 2 victory over West Bromwich Albion Under-21s.
“Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Sam well during his time in Northampton and we will be monitoring his progress very closely.”
