Jon Brady says he's looking forward to the challenge of trying to help keep the Cobblers in League One this season after taking over on a temporary basis.

With Keith Curle departing the club on Wednesday, Brady has stepped up from his role as U18s head coach to take charge of the first-team alongside Ian Sampson and Marc Richards

"It's been a mad 24 hours," said Brady, who paid tribute to the outgoing manager.

"Keith got us into League One and did a fantastic job for our football club. He played a lot of academy players and I had a great relationship with him but unfortunately this is the world we live in.

"What we've got to do now is look forward and get some positive results so we can climb up that table. We've got to all pull in the right direction to get this club to where it wants to be.

"Marc and Sammo have gained promotions with this club and they both have huge experience. They're the people that I'm really comfortable with and happy to have around me but they'll also push me."

Brady, who held his first training session on Thursday, admits the lack of goals is one of the most pressing priorities.

He added: "We've got to implement some principles and that's obviously got to be a focus at the moment because the numbers don't really add up if we want to stay in this league or at least be very competitive, which is what we want to do.

"I really enjoyed getting out there with them earlier today and there's a real energy and enthusiasm and buzz to us and it was a bright training session.

"It was short and sharp but it has to be at the moment with all the games, but we topped up the players that we felt needed the minutes and it was good fun.

"The players were also respectful towards Keith because he had a fantastic relationship with the boys and rightly so, but we all have to be resilient and move forward."

Asked if he believes they have the quality needed to stay up this season, Brady replied: "Yes, unequivocally."
