Cobblers' longest-serving current player, Sam Hoskins, will enter his sixth successive season at the club next year after signing a new two-year contract today.

The 27-year-old, who was signed by Chris Wilder in 2015, finished the 2019/20 campaign as top scorer for the Cobblers with 12 goals in all competitions, including five penalties.

Hoskins was a vital cog for Keith Curle's side as they clinched promotion from League Two, playing important roles at wing-back, midfield and up front, and he turned in two superb performances in the play-offs, scoring Town's third goal at Wembley.

The former Southampton youngster has scored 32 goals in all and is just five appearances short of 200 games for the club.

"I am really pleased that Sam has signed his new contract," said Curle.

"He played a big role for us last season, he scored some important goals and helped create others and as we said with Michael Harriman, Sam is also a player whose journey is not yet complete.

"He has that hunger and that desire to keep improving and to keep getting better, and I think Sam's game is continuing to develop.

"He also has a fantastic attitude and work ethic and you can't have too many characters like that in your dressing room.

"From a manager's point of view, he has that versatility that allows him to adapt and play a number of different roles and that is important during a season.

"Sam is at an excellent age, he has a good amount of experience under his belt and we are looking forward to working with him again. We are really pleased to have retained his services.”
