Cobblers have continued their impressive start to the summer transfer window with the statement signing of serial promotion-winner Danny Hylton on a two-year deal from Luton Town.

The 33-year-old, who has been linked to the club previously, including in January earlier this year, has turned down other options to make the switch to Sixfields, with AFC Wimbledon among those interested.

He has been on the radar of manager Jon Brady for some time and becomes Northampton’s third summer signing after Ben Fox and Ryan Haynes.

The experienced striker has won promotion five teams in his career and heads to Northampton after six hugely successful years at Luton, where he was a firm fans’ favourite. He helped the club from League Two to the Championship, scoring 50 goals in his two campaigns in the fourth tier with the Hatters.

Hylton started his career with Aldershot from 2006 to 2013, scoring 48 times as the Shots won promotion to the EFL.

After a spell at Rotherham United which included loans with Bury and AFC Wimbledon, Hylton moved to Oxford United in June 2014 and scored thirty goals in a two year spell at the Kassam Stadium.

In the summer of 2016 he moved to Luton Town and scored 62 times in 170 games for the Hatters in six years.
