Cobblers have made their seventh signing of the summer transfer window by swooping for striker Joe Nuttall on a season-long loan from League One counterparts Blackpool.

Nuttall will provide some much-needed competition in the striker department at Northampton, and joins Harry Smith as the only other senior centre-forward on the club's books.

Blackpool have allowed the 23-year-old to leave on loan after singing strikers Oliver Sarkic, Jerry Yates and ex-Town man Keshi Anderson earlier this summer.

The former Manchester City youngster left the Etihad in 2015 but didn't start a game for Aberdeen in two years and had loans at Stranraer and Dumbarton before a free transfer to Blackburn Rovers.

He made nine starts, including five in the Championship, during his time at Rovers, scoring eight goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Nuttall was then described as a 'strong, powerful striker who wants to learn and get better' by Simon Grayson when the then-Blackpool manager brought him to Bloomfield Road from Ewood Park in the summer of 2019.

He netted four times for the Seasiders from 13 starts and 20 substitute appearances, including a late winner against Ipswich Town just before the season was suspended due to the pandemic.

Nuttall has two years left on his deal at Blackpool, with an option to an extra year.
