Goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell has become Cobblers' second signing of the summer transfer window after joining on loan from Championship side Derby County.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper has signed on a season-long loan from Pride Park and follows Christopher Missilou as the second man through the PTS door since Town's promotion back to League One.

Mitchell started his career at Newcastle United but has spent the last six years at Derby, although he's made only five cup appearances for the Rams during that period.

His time at Pride Park has been dominated by loan spells. He joined Luton Town for a short time in 2016 before making 13 appearances for Oxford United and another nine at Shrewsbury Town, both in League One.

He also racked up 11 games for Macclesfield Town last season and played in the 1-0 defeat to Northampton on February 1.

Mitchell will compete with Steve Arnold for the gloves following the departure of David Cornell earlier in the summer.
