Cobblers' League One fixture at Blackpool has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Bloomfield Road has been hit by heavy rain all throughout Tuesday with Storm Christoph sweeping across the region.

Referee James Oldham checked conditions on his arrival at Bloomfield Road and declared the match postponed.

“I have been here for about 45 minutes or so now and the pitch is not improving and neither is the weather forecast,” he explained.

“From just rolling the ball in the key action areas, it isn’t bouncing or travelling very well, particularly in both goalmouths. That’s behind the decision to postpone the game.”

It's the second successive postponement for the Cobblers after their home game against Oxford United on Saturday also succumbed to heavy rain.

Town's fixture with Blackpool, which had already been rearranged once due to the FA Cup, will be given another new date in due course.
