Goode joined the Cobblers from Scunthorpe United just over a year ago, and captained Northampton Town to promotion via the League Two play-off final at Wembley.

He was the subject of interest from several Championship clubs, including Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers, but Brentford, who lost to Fulham in the play-off final, have won the race for his signature.

The club are unable to confirm the fee as part of the agreement with Brentford but reports suggest the deal includes an initial seven figure fee and is believed to be worth up to £1.5 million including various clauses.

The 25-year-old made 45 appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, scoring four goals, and was a firm favourite with supporters.

He initially came to the Cobblers on a loan deal in January 2019 before turning it into a permanent move after several impressive performances.

His departure leaves Northampton with just one senior centre-back.
