Cobblers have moved quickly to strengthen their defence following the loss of Charlie Goode with the capture of centre-back Luka Racic on a season-long loan deal from Brentford.

Town lost their skipper to the Bees for a club record fee on Wednesday, but the Championship club have helped soften the blow by lending the Cobblers one of their highly-rated youngsters.

Racic started his career with FC Copenhagen but moved to Griffin Park in 2018. He signed a new four-year deal with Brentford in October last year following promotion to the first-team squad.

"Luka started training with us this summer and impressed from day one," said Bees head coach Thomas Frank at the time of his new contract.

"We are very pleased that he has managed to develop his game this year and be integrated into the first-team squad. We really like him as a player. He is a very aggressive defender but also a clever defender and skilful with the ball. We have big belief in him and feel he has a very bright future.”

The 21-year-old, who stands at 6ft 2in and has played for Denmark U21s, has made has made nine appearances for Brentford, including six in the Championship. He was also on target with his first senior goal in a 2-2 draw at Cardiff City at the end of February.

Racic joins Fraser Horsfall as another centre-back option for Keith Curle, although the Town boss is still in the marker for more defenders.
