Cobblers have made it two signings in a day with the arrival of experienced centre-back Cian Bolger on an initial one-year contract from fellow League One club Lincoln City.

Charlie Goode's departure had left Cobblers light at the back but Curle's wasted little time in replacing his former captain with Luka Racic and now Bolger brought into the building.

The 6ft 3in, 28-year-old has a wealth of League One experience under his belt. He began his career at Leicester City and spent two years on loan at Bristol Rovers before joining Bolton Wanderers in January 2013.

Bolger had further loan stints at Colchester United and Southend United before he joined the latter on a permanent basis in August 2014.

A move to Fleetwood Town came in the summer of 2016, and he went on to make 108 appearances and score 13 goals in two-and-a-half years at Highbury.

He moved to Lincoln City in the January 2019 transfer window and played 50 times for the Red Imps in a season and a half.

Bolger has made over 250 appearances in his career, and Keith Curle says he is pleased to welcome the Irishman to the club.

"Cian is an experienced centre-back who knows his game and knows his strengths," he said.

"He is very competitive and is an all in type of character who is not afraid of the physical side of the game.

"Cian has played a lot of League One football over the last few seasons, he knows this level well, he knows what is required and is a very good competitor."
