Brady hails superb Cobblers after stunning Huddersfield Town win

Cobblers boss Jon Brady hailed his players for both executing the game plan and leaving everything out on the pitch after Saturday’s stunning 3-1 victory away at high-flying Huddersfield Town.

The promotion-hunting Terriers were heavily odds-on to make it five wins from six to start the season but Michal Helik’s comical own goal gifted Cobblers an 18th-minute advantage and from that point on there only looked one winner.

Cameron McGeehan swept Town into a two-goal lead before Tariqe Fosu incredibly made it three after half-time, and whilst Josh Koroma’s goal triggered a frantic late rally from the hosts, aided by Akin Odimayo’s red card, Cobblers defended superbly to claim three surprising but fully deserved points.

"It was a really good performance from the boys,” said Brady. “They committed to the game plan and they were brave in possession.

"Our press paid dividends for the first goal because it forced them into an error and that gave us a footing in the game and it gave us belief and we really stepped on from there. They didn’t have a shot on target until the 65th minute.

"That shows how good the boys were and the way we set up, and we could have gone 4-0 up with Jon Guthrie hitting the crossbar from a well-worked set-piece.

"Huddersfield are a very good team and they obviously threw caution to the wind at the end but you have to compliment (Lee) Burgey because it’s a brilliant penalty save and it could have been a different story if not for that.

"They had a couple of efforts but the boys defended superbly and we played some really good football at times. Overall it was a strong performance.”
