Jon Brady hailed the spirit and endeavour of his players after they scored two late goals to beat league leaders Stevenage 3-2 in a remarkable game at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday.

Louis Appéré’s second-minute penalty set the tone for a hugely entertaining game as Danny Rose levelled against his old club late in the first-half before it all kicked off in the final 10 minutes.

Kieron Bowie looked to have grabbed a winner, only for Alex Gilbey to level minutes later, and instead it was Shaun McWilliams who volleyed home with only three minutes to play. Danny Hylton was then sent off in stoppage-time to cap off an incident-filled afternoon.

Stevenage had won their last 13 successive home games in all competitions but it was not to become 14 thanks to the Cobblers.

"It’s a good win,” said Brady. “We wanted to come here and end their home record and we have done that. I think they had only conceded two goals in all of their home games and we’ve scored three today alone.

"The spirit and the endeavour, it shows in spades and I’m really pleased with it and I’m pleased we have come out with three points.

"We started really well but we allowed them to get back into the game and get a foothold so we spoke about a few things which we needed to do and the boys implemented it in the second-half.

"We had to make changes. AK (Akin Odimayo) did 60, 65 minutes but he was feeling the effects of coming back and playing two games in a week and Sam (Sherring) got a bit of a knock so we had to adjust again and we finished the game with two 19-year-olds either side of Jon Guthrie at centre-back.

"To come back like we did, after we were pegged back, we could have gone under but not with this group. They don’t do that. We go 2-1 up, 2-2 and then to get the winner was really pleasing.”
