Cobblers boss Jon Brady is delighted with the progress of young Max Dyche.

The 19-year-old defender, a product of the club’s youth system, is now a regular member of Town’s matchday squad and has already clocked up 15 appearances with the first-team this season.

Only three of those have been starts but the fact that Brady had no hesitation in putting him on for the injured Sam Sherring during Saturday’s goalless draw with Tranmere Rovers was evidence of his faith in the young centre-back.

Discussing Dyche’s progress, Brady said: "I’ve known Max since he was nine years of age and I actually coached him back then.

"I’ve seen his development more than most and I’m really pleased with him and where he’s at.

"He’s only 19 and he’s still learning his trade alongside the likes of Jon Guthrie, Sam (Sherring) and Tyler (Magloire), and Colin (Calderwood) has been a big influence as well.

"I think Max would tell you that himself because Col’s played at the highest level as a centre-half and we all work to try and improve him every day and he is so hungry himself to improve.

"He is hugely competitive. You have to try and tame him in training at times and no one wants to go near him because he spits and snarls and gets stuck in.

"It’s great to have that competitiveness and no one wants it more than Max and you can see that. He has a first-class attitude and he’s developing really well so we are very pleased with him.”
