Jon Brady says the need to be 'more attacking' was the main reason behind his decision to play 4-3-3 in Saturday's defeat to Burton Albion.

Town invariably played three at the back under previous manager Keith Curle, including in his final game in charge against Wigan Athletic last Tuesday.

However, to the delight of many supporters, Brady immediately altered things for his first match as caretaker boss when switching to four at the back.

Peter Kioso and Joseph Mills played at full-back while Ryan Watson, Bryn Morris and Shaun McWilliams interchanged in a midfield three. Mark Marshall was also recalled from the cold to start on the wing with Danny Rose through the middle.

However, whilst there was a clear improvement, Town again failed to score and Brady believes his players are still playing with an element of caution.

"I wanted to be more attacking and I wanted the full-backs to join in a lot more," explained Brady on the formation change. "I wanted to free them up and allow them to go forward.

"That happened in moments but not as much as we wanted. We also wanted the midfield two to play higher up and get closer to the striker.

"I wanted Rosey to be in the box as much as possible and have the opposite wide men on crosses to get in there as well as another midfielder.

"Did we get that? At times, no, we didn't. But at half-time, I was trying to free up Watto to get into the box and make those runs, so it was things like that.

"It's about believing and arriving into the box and getting your head on the end of things. I felt we were more attacking than we had been before but we've got to keep building that belief."
