The French-born Congolese international has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the PTS Academy Stadium, with the option for a second year.

Now 28, Missilou began his career with his home town club Auxerre, working his way through the ranks before making a single appearance in Ligue 1.

He played for a clutch of lower tier French clubs before making the switch to Oldham in the summer of 2018.

He spent two seasons at Boundary Park, making 77 first team appearances, but has now switched Greater Manchester for Northampton, with the deal effective from August 1.

"Christopher is a good fit for us and he is a signing we are delighted to make," said Curle.

"He is primarily a defensive midfield player who enjoys the competitive side of the game.

"He generally plays behind the ball, but he has a forward thinking mentality, supporting play and he can read the game well. He senses danger and helps breaks things up.

"He can also step through the lines and he has a good range of passing ability.

"Christopher is also a good age. We want players with the ambition, hunger and desire to progress and he is very much in that bracket while also having a good amount of experience. He has played a lot of games over the last two years.

"He has always impressed us when we have watched him and we are delighted to welcome him to Northampton Town."

Missilou started for Oldham in their past three meetings against the Cobblers, and clearly caught the eye of Curle, who was in charge of Town on each occasion.

What turned out to be his last game for the Latics was their 3-0 Sky Bet League Two defeat at Crawley Town on March 7.
