Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is backing young defender Luka Racic to thrive during his time on loan at the Cobblers.

The 21-year-old, who has been on the fringes of Brentford's first-team squad over the last 18 months, will spend the 2020/21 season working under Keith Curle.

Racic is joined at the Cobblers by fellow defenders Fraser Horsfall and Cian Bolger, both of whom also only the club this summer.

The Denmark U21 international initially signed for Brentford B back in 2018 but has quickly progressed, making nine appearances in all competitions last season.

“We’re very pleased that Luka has this opportunity to go out on loan to Northampton Town and play matches at a high level," said Frank.

"League One is a fantastic place for young players to play as it has the same competitive edge as the Championship.

"It is crucial for Luka at this stage of his development that he plays matches and the best way for him to do that currently is on loan.

"We have massive belief in Luka; we’ve shown that over the past 18 months with his game-time at the end of the 2018/19 season and then last season’s appearances in league and cup competitions.

"We wish him all the best for his time at Northampton”
