It's a case of 'back to the future' for the Cobblers as they return to an old classic colour combination for their new away kit for the 2024/25 Sky Bet League One season.

The new Puma shirt is a yellow with a claret v-neck, with the clean and simple design harking back to the days of the 1980s and 90s when the colours were the regular ones used in Cobblers second strips.

The colours were perhaps most memorably worn on their travels by Graham Carr's buccaneering Division Four title winners of 1987, and the new kit is a very close replica of that Spall-made classic.

But the away kit for Ian Atkins' Wembley play-off winners in 1997 was also yellow and claret, even though the Lotto-designed shirt was not quite the same classic design!

In recent years, the club has used plenty of different colour combinations, but they have this year decided to go back to yellow and claret.

The most recent away kit to feature those colours was the one worn in the 2011/12 campaign.

There have been a couple of yellow away kits since then, but the trimmings were black and red, rather than claret.

A club statement read: "Northampton Town are delighted to launch the brand new 2024/25 PUMA away kit!

"The new away kit sees a return to the club's traditional away kit colours of claret and yellow, a combination worn regularly on the club's away kits in the 1990s, and last featured on the away kit in the 2011/12 season."

The new shirt is available to pre-order online, and will be available in store from next Thursday (June 13).

The club believe the new shirt will make an 'ideal Father's Day gift', and say online pre-orders will be dispatched in time with the special day next Sunday (June 16).
