Striker Benny Ashley-Seal was thrilled to score his first two goals for the Cobblers during Tuesday's EFL Trophy tie against Southampton U23s.

Town led 2-0 at the break through Joseph Mills and Mark Marshall before Ashley-Seal, who signed from Wolves earlier in the summer, came to the party in the second-half.

He scored within 30 seconds of the restart, half-volleying into the bottom corner from 20 yards, and eight minutes after Caleb Chukwuemeka also bagged his first goal for the club, Ashley-Seal finished off a slick move to make it 5-0.

"I'm really happy to get my first goals for the club," said the 21-year-old. "It's always nice to get on the score sheet and hopefully I can kick-on from here.

"It was nice to score straight after half-time, I think it was about 20 seconds in, and that was important for us to score that so quickly.

"For the second goal, Morgan (Roberts) put in a very good ball for me and that's something we've worked on training and it paid off during the match. We work on that as a team and the ball Morgan crossed for me, that's exactly what we've been doing.

"I probably could and should have had a hat-trick to be honest. Caleb put a good cross into the box and I was waiting for it but I just delayed the shot a bit too long and they got a block in.

"I didn't have a celebration lined up. When I score, it just sort of happens in the moment. I actually don't really celebrate apart from a knee-slide or maybe a 'shh' celebration as I did in the GIF on Twitter.

"But now we have to make sure we're ready for the game on Saturday. All the boys have made me aware that it's a big game so we'll train hard on Thursday and get ready to play Peterborough."
